According to foreign media reports, Lina Alvarez, a 62-year-old woman currently living in Galicia, Spain, has just welcomed life’s most precious gift, she gave a birth to a healthy baby girl in a local hospital. The baby girl was delivered two weeks ahead of schedule by Caesarean section.

“I feel phenomenal. I couldn’t be better. I’m very very grateful to live for such a precious little thing,” she told local news sites. 

Lina has two other children, one is 28 years old, another is 10 years old. And her second and third pregnancies were through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, which have ignited a heated debate and controversy over age limits for IVF treatments. Some people, however, hold the opinion that Lina’s success in pregnancy and delivery will definitely encourage many women eager for a baby in their later years to imitate her if they want to. 

When it comes to IVF treatment, there’s never short of big news. The world’s oldest documented mother is 70-year-old Daljinder Kaur of, India, who successfully gave a birth in 2015 after a two-year IVF treatment.

As we all know, IVF is a procedure designed to increase the chance of conception in couples whose fertility problems prevent them from having children. According to Dr. Tian, at Guangzhou Elizabeth Women’s Hospital, “It is a very complicated process and probably involves multiple steps resulting in the fertilization of oocytes in the laboratory.”
