What You Should Know About Cervical Erosion?

What You Should Know About Cervical Erosion?

In many women, cells from inside the cervical canal, known as glandular cells, are present on the outside surface of the cervix. This used to be called cervical erosion and is now more commonly known as cervical ectropion.

The area where the glandular cells meet the squamous epithelial cells, which are those found on the outer surface of the cervix, is called the transformation zone. If a woman has cervical ectropion, it can be seen by the doctor when she does a cervical screening test (smear test) and the area appears red (because glandular cells are red). While many women are born with cervical ectropion, it can be caused by hormonal changes, so sometimes young women, pregnant women or women on the pill are more likely to have it.

Cervical ectropion is NOT linked to the development of cervical cancer or any other condition that causes cancer.

For the majority of women, cervical ectropion does not cause any problems and it usually goes away by itself without needing any treatment.

However, as glandular cells bleed more easily and can produce more mucus than squamous epithelial cells, cervical ectropion may cause spotting, discharge or pain during or after sex. It can also sometimes cause pain during or after a cervical screening. If any of these symptoms are causing problems for you, you may wish to look into treatment options. Your GP can provide you with more help on this and refer you for treatment, if necessary.

In order to solve this problem, Elizabeth Hospital has brought in the LEEP High-Frequency Technology. In this technology, the Leep not only remove the erosion, but also kill the bacteria. It’s a once for all treatment, which had proved its effect for those who have got inflammation on the cervix.

The LEEP treatment can result in some bleeding or discharge, as well as some ‘period-like’ pain. We recommend no bath and no swimming for two months post-treatment. Tampons and penetrative intercourse should be avoided until you are fully healed, usually within 4-8 weeks, to avoid the risk of infection. Regular checking is necessary after treatment. If you experience severe pain that doesn’t go away by using pain killers, heavy bleeding or an unpleasant smelling discharge post-treatment you should contact your GP.

Postpartum Depression Among Women---Causes, Symptoms And Treatments.

Postpartum Depression Among Women---Causes, Symptoms And Treatments.

Last Friday evening, Chinese actor and singer Qiao Renliang was found dead in his Shanghai department. It’s said that Qiao has suffered from severe depression since 2015. And the police have ruled out murder.

According to those close to Qiao, the 28-year-old star was diagnosed with depression last year, and was at times heavily reliant on sleeping pills. However, he was offered few treatments and little support for his depression.

Several other high-profile celebrities, including Hongkong actor Leslie Cheung, have committed suicide after struggling with depression. This terrible disease not only claims these famous lives, but also strikes ordinary people around us. Qiao’s death has drawn public attention on depression that torment people’s souls and lives.

According to the WHO(World Health Organization), the number of people suffering from mental diseases and brain sickness worldwide reach about 450 million and one million suicide occur as a result of depression. The killer is possibly estimated to be the second largest human disease inferior to CVD(cardiovascular disease)by 2020.

Postpartum Depression Among Women
For a new mother, you suddenly face lots of challenges getting used to life with a newborn baby. You also probably have to cope with sleep deprivation, new responsibilities. What’s more, you may be suffering from depression after childbirth---that’s postpartum depression, which usually occurs in the first few months after childbirth. It can make you feel very sad, frustrated and empty, you probably have a hard time caring for your newborn baby.

Symptoms or Signs of Postpartum Depression
“Symptoms of postpartum depression usually develop within the first few weeks after giving a birth, sometimes also begin later.” Say Dr. H. Sema.Malinova, at Guangzhou Elizabeth Women’s Hospital, and it may include:

Helplessness;
Persistent sadness;
Irritability;
Low self-esteem;
Loss of pleasure in activities;
Mood changes;
Inability to adjust to role of motherhood;
Inability to concentrate;
Sleep /appetite disturbances.

Treatment for Postpartum Depression
When it comes to treatments and services for women with postpartum depression, few people know how to cope with it. According to Dr. H. Sema.Malinova, here are some effective non-medical ways for new mothers with postpartum depression:

Breathing Techniques---If you thought proper, controlled breathing would only help you get through labor, think again. There are several breathing techniques that can actually be used in everyday life to help bring you to a more peaceful emotional place.

Psychotherapy---Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been proven to be highly effective in treating PPD. This form of therapy is a joint effort between the therapist and the patient, in which the therapist listens, teaches and encourages as the patient conveys their concerns and learns to cope techniques that they then implement in their everyday lives.

Music Therapy---Music instruction has long been used to combat other forms of depression, stress, and dementia since the 1950s, and its therapeutic value is nothing less than amazing.

Nutrition---Often new moms are so concerned with making sure the baby is well-fed, she forgets to feed herself. Basic nutrition, such as nibbling protein throughout the day to help keep the blood sugar even can keep the moods more stable.

The sooner you get treatments, the better for both you and your newborn baby.
